We're well into March, and the first couple of months have been a proper winter, so we've had to make sure we've kept the feeders well stocked. It's appreciated by the regulars, in particular the siskins, with the males in their bright green and yellow plumage and their black caps. Great, blue and coal tits, chaffinch and greenfinch, the odd goldfinch, even house sparrows and robins; all make the most of the feeders, with blackbirds and dunnock taking advantage of the pickings underneath.

This winter has brought a lot of red deer down from the tops, with over 100 counted from the road at Glen Tarbert, between us and the ferry. We're seeing Roe Deer more often than usual from the house, along with red. The snow showed their tracks throughout January and February. We had a fantastic view of an otter in Loch Sunart, just next to the war memorial at the edge of the village. He (and he was definitely a he - a big dog otter) came out of the water with a fish, which he proceeded to eat rather noisily right in front of us. Half an hour later, from the beach at Inversanda, we watched another swimming and diving offshore for a good twenty minutes.

This file is the up to date list for the year so far, with both birds and animals. Follow this link for a full list for 2009. We hit a milestone in December, with 100 species seen on the peninsula. A trio of Bewick's swans on Loch Doilet a week before Christmas completed the full century. Our fourth year here started in February, and the list for 2010 continues to grow.
