Quality Bed and Breakfast in the heart of the Highlands

Sanna Bay

Sanna Bay is, quite simply, stunning.

The combination of white sand, fertile machair, high dunes and turquoise sea shows the visitor the highland coast at its best.  Anywhere else, and this beach would be noisy and crowded, with crisp packets blowing in the wind.  Not here.  Ever.

But I would say leave the beach until last - explore the surroundings first, and you will be rewarded with surprise after surprise.

North and east of the bay, the land rises and headland after headland thrusts into the sea.

The geology of Ardnamurchan is fascinating.  To get to Sanna, you drive through the heart of a massive ring dyke complex, hinted at in the hills that surround you, and in the flatness of the central plain, but only fully appreciated from the air.

Reminiscent of the iconic row of houses on St Kilda, the cleared township of Plocaig lies to the north east of the current crofting township of Sanna.

Rubha Carrach stands proudly above the clear blue water.

Basking shark are a common sight, although you need binoculars and a better camera than mine to fully enjoy them!

Sanna lies to the top right of the picture, with Kilchoan at the top left.
